Lisbon/Lisboa depending on who says it. Ana
Lisbon
Well after a lovely ten hour trip we arrive in the morning and are told per our hostel booking find bus 28 and then we will be dropped off close to the hostel. I have learned Mandi is not a morning person she was just pretending when we first came on our trip and is now going back to the norm. I first noticed in Almorox but really noticed in Lisbon. Our train stops and I wake Mandi to tell her we arrived and if she wants me to put her kindle in our small pack, little buddy, she says yes then tears out of the train as if she is in a race. I am not sure exactly what she was thinking but she was getting OFF and taking no prisoners. I on the other hand was looking for the kindle, that she took, to pack. If the train had left with me in it it would have been in Mandi’s terms “bad juju.” Either way we were off the train together at 7:00 am hungry and now looking for our bus. We have learned that those in the south of Europe are not really time oriented people. If we had been in the US there would have been tons of people out but not here so we decided to get a coffee and some kind of breakfast. After breakfast we found a very flirty bus driver to directed us to the correct bus stop and the number was actually 728. We did learn later we got off the train to soon but it was funny to see Mandi fly out of the train. We get to the hostel and another win. The receptionist is extra sweet welcomes us to our rooms and even breakfast if we wanted even though we are not suppose to arrive till after 1:00 pm he takes us in before 10:00 am and wants to feed us. We had not had that yet in our hostel visits. We rest for the day because sleeping on a train is not the easiest and they had the heat set on 90 degrees,=oP. The next day we go on our walking tour and our guide loves his city and hates politics. He called some of the new buildings that were put up by the government “architectural abortions” but it was strange the talked about their history and discussed the church, explorers, politics, and writers but no wars. He said he was a pacifist and had visited Cuba, central America and some of Europe and thought gun laws were good. We changed the subject. Mandi and I did meet some interesting people in the hostel, Fabritizio (Canada), Antonio (Spain) and Merinda (Holland), they were very generous and fun people. We had dinner with them a couple nights and had great fun with the rest of the hostel too. We also went to Fatima and were soaked to the bone. We saw the church but there was so much activity like talking, kids yelling, and just noise it was impossible to have quiet time. So we decided to go to the outside sanctuary where they were having service. Very glad Mandi got to enjoy that because it was pretty miserable outside. We decided to take the bus back and that was fun to. There were a couple times the bus driver decided to hydroplane because he was going to fast, again grateful we are not driving here, then we are back in Lisbon at a totally different place than we expected so Mandi in her excellent navigation skills gets us to the metro and back to our hostel to dry up. The next day we are off again but to Barcelona and another night train, yea. So now our clothes are wet and they do not have dryers and in rainy weather clothes do not dry in a cold hostel. Since we have to wait for the day because our train does not leave till 8:00 pm I cook for the guys left from the dinner party from before and I do not know how to cook for just a few people so we have several for chicken and fideo (very hot). It was funny cooking with a bunch of guys around they were so impressed I could cut up a whole chicken, so thank you mom for teaching me the basics. It was real funny seeing the guys half drunk sober up quick when they began to eat dinner. I did not know you can get sober from hot food. =o) hehehe Well, we said good-by to our new friends and were off again to Barcelona.
