Wein (or Vienna as we know it.)
How awesome it is to be on a train for a few hours and then we have reached our destination. After being on long train trips this was refreshing with great views. We are back in a modern subway system, yea. Mandi gets us to our hostel easily and we are both starving, since our trip was so quick we could actually go into town (because our hostel was a bit out of the way but close to the subway) and have lunch. We ate at Weinerwald that had a picture of a chicken so how could we loose. Yummy, fried mushrooms and chicken with potatoes. Out on the town around three in the afternoon the city center was not busy but they did have Christmas markets and a couple churches to take pictures of. Then Mandi and I were caught by a man dressed in classical looking clothes. He was trying to sell tickets for a classical concert for about 50 euros each and we finally got them for 18 euros for both, yea! The only catch was we would have to stay in town till 7:30 pm in the cold. We did not really have a hard time doing that since we had just arrived and needed to take pictures of all the Christmas lights. The concert was good with four violins, one viola, one cello, and a pianist. There was also an opera singer and 2 ballerinas. We were ready to go back to the hostel when it was over because it was very cold. The next day would be our last in Vienna so we wanted to take full advantage of our day. Up early to a horrific sight of unorganized messy “free” breakfast. Not the best we have had but it filled a whole. Once back in the town center we were able to find even more and larger Christmas markets fun and cold again but we managed to stay till night to see all the lights. I will add pics when we have better internet. I would not like to go back to Vienna for a Christmas market again even though the city was really dressed up for the holiday. That last night there was so crowed it was as if we were the rats on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade trying to get out! We did find a church to take pictures of that we did not find before. Apparently they had just had a wedding because it was dressed up with white star lilies. They were also having a special service so Mandi and I stayed, we did not understand the service but Mandi was able to take communion. On our way back to the hostel we found yummy food then we packed for the next day to leave. I had always wanted to hear the Vienna Boys Choir so we hoped to see and hear them since we were there but they were off this weekend and the chanters were going to do the service. We chose to sleep in and catch our train to Munich instead. Breakfast was again chaos and we were glad to check out even though the hostel did have Hot water and we had the room to ourselves.
